Biography

Born in 1977 in Valencia, he studied composition with Ramón Ramos in Valencia and with Gérard Pesson and J. Manuel López López in Paris.

He was awarded the 37th Reina Sofía Prize for Musical Composition (2020) and First Prize in the 22nd Fundación Autor-CNDM Young Composers Award (2011).

His works have been performed by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre National de Lorraine, the Orquesta de Valencia, the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana, the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, Sonido Extremo, Grup Mixtour, Grup Instrumental de València, Ensemble Espai Sonor, Ensemble d’Arts, the B3 Brower Trio, Smash Ensemble, Plural Ensemble, Ensamble Cepromusic, Neopercusión, Ensemble l’Itinéraire, and Ensemble Orchestrutopica, among others; in venues such as the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, the Palau de la Música de Valencia, L’Auditori de Barcelona, the Auditorio de Zaragoza, the Auditorio de Tenerife, the Roman Theatre of Sagunto, the Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos de Badajoz, the Auditorio 400 at the Reina Sofía Art Center, Teatros del Canal, Teatro Auditorio Escorial, the BBVA Foundation in Bilbao and Madrid, and the Grande Salle de l’Arsenal in Metz; and at festivals including Ensems, the Alicante Festival of Contemporary Music, the Acanthes Festival (Metz), the Gare du Nord Festival (Basel), the CNDM’s 20/21 Series, the BBVA Foundation Contemporary Music Series, the Bernaola Festival, the Madrid Sacred Art Festival, and the Mostra Sonora de Sueca, among others.

In 2019 he received a Leonardo Grant for Researchers and Cultural Creators from the BBVA Foundation, with which he composed the chamber opera Esther frente al espejo. He has been composer-in-residence with the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana, for which he wrote on commission the opera Noches blancas, premiered in concert version at the Palau de les Arts, and Liebestod (Barcarola para orquesta). Both works are included on a monographic recording made by the orchestra under the direction of Manuel Galduf. This disc is complemented by another monographic CD published with the arts, literature and music journal Sibila, which devoted its music section to him in one of its issues.

Among his other notable commissions are a concerto for piano and orchestra commissioned by the Palau de la Música de Valencia and premiered by the Orquesta de Valencia and Carlos Apellániz under the baton of Jordi Francés; Orbes (quasi una passacaglia), commissioned by the Fundación SGAE-AEOS for the Orquesta de Valencia and premiered under its chief conductor A. Liebreich; a work commissioned by Radio France and recorded by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France for the France Musique radio programme Création mondiale; a work for the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana to mark its 25th anniversary; and one of the compulsory pieces for the 15th José Iturbi International Piano Competition. He has also received commissions from the Xarxa de Músiques de Catalunya, Grup Instrumental de València, Mostra Sonora de Sueca, Neopercusión, the “Residencias” Chamber Music Festival in Godella, and the Percute Festival in Catarroja.
